Thousands of supporters gathered at the fairgrounds to listen to Trump speak. Vendors sold pro-Trump merchandise including “Trump 2024” flags.
The rally, sponsored by the Save America movement, was a campaign push for Trump’s former White House advisor, Max Miller.
Miller is challenging incumbent Rep. Anthony Gonzalez in the 2022 16th Congressional District GOP primary. Gonzalez was one of the few House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump after the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
During the rally, Trump fired several shots at Gonzalez, calling him a “fake Republican” and “not the candidate you want representing the party.”
On Friday, Gonzalez’s campaign responded to Miller’s candidacy in a statement calling him unfit to represent the district’s community and calling him an “errand boy” for the former president while also touting the congressman’s service to his constituents. The statement reads:
While Max was being an errand boy, fetching the President Diet Cokes and laboring over which music to play at campaign rallies, Anthony Gonzalez has been serving his constituents and focusing on issues that matter to the people of Northeast Ohio. Anthony is a proven conservative with a record of strengthening our economy, fighting back against the Chinese Communist Party and its unfair trade practices, serving our veterans and providing the highest level of constituent services. Max Miller isn’t fit to represent our community in Congress, and the campaign, as it develops, will bear this out.Anthony Gonzalez Campaign
Additionally, Trump took aim at President Joe Biden and his entire Administration.
“Joe Biden is destroying our nation right before our very eyes,” he said.
Trump also revisited claims that he won the 2020 presidential election.
“On the evening of Nov. 3 the election was over and then all of a sudden things started closing down all over,” the former president said. “We took a massive victory, they did, into something that should never be allowed.”
His claims were resounded by other politicians present at the event. When Miller took the stage, he even hinted that Trump could make another run in the next presidential election.
“Come 2024, we’re going to get him elected for the third time,” Miller told the crowd.
Trump will be holding several rallies in the coming weeks as he endorses other Republican candidates ahead of midterm elections. His next rally is scheduled for July 3 in Sarasota, Florida.
