Cross-country charity cycling ride for children’s cancer ends In tragedy

U.S. & World

A 32-year-old man killed in a cycling accident in Mississippi was riding cross-country to raise money for children’s cancer research.

James M. Dobson was hit by a vehicle while riding on U.S. Highway 98 in Lamar County Tuesday.

He died at the scene.

More than a thousand miles away, Dobson’s family was heartbroken when they heard the news.

“Three state troopers knocked on my door and informed me. I don’t think it’s really hit me,” said his mother, Cindy Dobson.

Dobson was raised in Maine but lived in New Hampshire and had been on the road since October 1st. That was the day he left Dover, New Hampshire on a ride to San Diego to raise money for Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock.

The ride was called the Positive Vibes Tour.
