WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA) – Fire and utility crews in Winter Haven frantically worked to rescue a puppy that fell into a drain Monday morning.

The puppy fell into a drain sometime before 9:45 a.m. Monday on Grey Herring Drive near Lucerne Park. The puppy was successfully rescued around 10:50 a.m.

Crews were originally trying to dig where the puppy fell in but say sand was filling in as they were digging. They decided instead to deploy a camera to check the dog and push it to a different pipe.

Authorities eventually got the dog to a pipe down the street where there is a manhole. A tactical team from the fire department was able to get into the manhole to get the puppy.

There is no word yet on how the puppy got into the drain. Authorities said the dog was in good condition, but scared.
