Homecoming is a memorable night for a lot of high schoolers, but one girl’s homecoming proposal is warming hearts across the country.
Norristown High School senior Britney Morales planned to ask Geovanie Torres, a classmate with special needs, to prom last year, but she found out the special needs students had a different prom, according to KYW. When she found out all students could go to homecoming, she decided to put her plan into action.
Morales recorded the entire thing, and now the video is going viral on social media.
“It was just so exciting and I would’ve never expected for all this to happen,” Morales said. “I just recorded it so I could share the moment with his dad.”
Morales met Geovanie two years ago when she was a hostess at a Mexican restaurant his father, David Torres, manages. David Torres is a single father of five, and seeing Morales ask his son to homecoming was a moment he didn’t expect.
“Every time I see it, it makes my eyes tear up,” David Torres said. “Seeing him grow up, you just want, you know, to have all of the experience like everyone else.”
Next Saturday, Geovanie will get that chance.
“I always try to make them [special needs students] a part of us because we’re all human, we’re all the same. We were all born the same,” she told KYW. “Some of us just have a different destiny.”
