Amber Alert issued for missing baby in New York

U.S. & World

SODUS, NY (WROC-TV) – An Amber Alert has been issued in the search for a missing baby in Wayne County.

Friday morning, crews have once again descended on a Wayne County farm to search for the 14-month-old baby after his mother’s body was recovered.

Thursday, deputies said they had recovered the body of 18-year-old Selena Hidalgo-Calderon. Deputies said the body was found in a wooded area behind a home on Joy Road in Sodus where Selena was living with her boyfriend Alberto Ebarado Gutierrez-Reyes.

Selena and her 14-month-old son Owen were reported missing Sunday, May 20.

Deputies say trail cameras captured Gutierrez-Reyes walking in and out of the same woods on May 17 carrying a shovel. Deputies say he later admitted to burying Selena Hidalgo-Calderon, but said he didn’t kill her.

Right now, Gutierrez-Reyes is charged with tampering with evidence. Deputies say he could face further charges after the results of a autopsy are released.

As for Owen, deputies say the baby is still missing and presumed dead. In the Amber Alert, officials say the sheriff’s department is investigating “a child abduction on Joy Road.” It’s not clear why the alert was issued Friday.

Friday morning, an RTS bus brought more than a 100 volunteers who are assisting in the search for the baby.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office at 315-946-9711.
