A 2-year-old has died after falling out of a fourth-floor apartment window in Massachusetts.
Cell phone video shows first responders answering a frantic call for help at an apartment complex Friday.
Fire officials say the child fell out of a window at the top level of the building.
“I saw a mom was crying and her grandmother and everyone was crying,” said a man who works near the apartment building.
The toddler was flown to a local hospital but did not survive.
A neighbor said he interacted with the child often.
“A typical 2-year-old, always smiling, happy, used to always talk to him around the elevator,” the neighbor said.
A man who lived in the apartment building for more than a year said he was shocked to hear what happened to the child.
“Everyone is in a somber mood. I spoke to the neighbor. She said she had worked with the lady, the mom, and that she definitely didn’t deserve this. That she was a hardworking woman,” William Reitzell said.
Fitchburg Police Chief Ernest Martineau said 911 calls like these are the most difficult for first responders.
“Its a tragedy. It just breaks everybody’s heart when children are involved. All of our thoughts and prayers go to this family,” Martineau said.
