ARAPAHOE COUNTY, CO (WCMH) — A Colorado man has been arrested after police say he orchestrated a car crash in order to kill his 2-year-old son, because he no longer wanted to be a dad.

According to KUSA, authorities in Arapahoe County, Colorado, say Nathan Weitzel, 29, admitted to intentionally leaving his toddler son, Isaiah, unbuckled then crashing his car into another vehicle at 75mph.

According to police, Weitzel said he tried to kill his son because he didn’t want to be a father any more.

Isaiah suffered multiple broken bones, and is now recovering with a cast on half his body and stitches on his head.

Weitzel is charged with attempted first degree murder, child abuse, assault, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance and vehicular assault.

“I don’t understand why or how he could do something like this. But I am hoping that Isaiah recovers fast. That people pray for our son; for my son to get better,” said Isaiah’s mom Nancy Lopez.
