Suspect in deadly Westerville hit and run charged with vehicular homicide


WESTERVILLE, OH (WCMH) — A man suspected in a deadly hit and run Monday morning in Westerville has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide.

According to the Westerville Police Department, officers were called to the area of Park Meadow and Schrock roads at about 9:47am, Monday, on the report of a person down.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a woman’s body along the road.

Police said a vehicle struck the woman, later identified as Linda J. Evans, 66 of Columbus, and then drove away from the scene. According to police, it is believed that Evans was struck while she was jogging.

After interviewing a witness, police located a vehicle belonging to Jonathan B. Coffman, 32, of Delaware, with damage consistent to the hit-skip in a nearby parking lot.

Police originally arrested Coffman on an OVI charge. He was later charged with aggravated vehicular homicide.

According to court records, Coffman shows signs of impairment during field sobriety tests. Coffman told police he was impaired on Seroquel at the time of the crash, according to court documents.
