Steel Vengeance makes debut at Cedar Point

State News

Cedar Point’s Steel Vengeance made its media debut Wednesday, offering some of the first views of the ride in action.

Steel Vengeance is 205 feet high and features a 90-degree initial drop.

Multiple airtime hills follow, including the world’s fastest airtime hill ever created on a hybrid roller coaster, and a 116-foot-tall outer-banked hill placing riders on an outward tilt while moving forward.

Steel Vengeance also features the world’s first “Twisted Snake Dive,” snaking the train through a half-barrel roll, holding it upside-down for a brief moment and then twisting it back into the direction of travel, not completing a full roll. Multiple airtime hills, twists, dives and overbanked turns follow in this 2-minute, 30-second journey.

Steel Vengeance is Cedar Point’s first ‘hyper-hybrid’ roller coaster. It features a steel track supported by a wooden structure. It also reaches a height of over 200 feet, the defining characteristic of a ‘hyper-coaster.’

In total, Steel Vengeance shatters 10 world records, including:

  1. World’s tallest hybrid roller coaster (205 feet tall)
  2. World’s fastest hybrid roller coaster (74 miles per hour)
  3. World’s steepest drop on a hybrid roller coaster (90 degrees)
  4. World’s longest drop on a hybrid roller coaster (200 feet)
  5. World’s longest hybrid roller coaster (5,740 feet)
  6. Most inversions on a hybrid roller coaster (4)
  7. Fastest airtime hill on a hybrid roller coaster (73 mph)
  8. Most airtime on a hybrid roller coaster (27.2 seconds)
  9. Most airtime on any roller coaster (27.2 seconds)
  10. World’s first “hyper-hybrid” roller coaster

The coaster opens to the public Friday, April 27 at the Steel Vengeance First Rider Benefit. Guests will have the opportunity to be among the first to ride the ride. Tickets are $50 and benefit the Lebron James Family Foundation.

Steel Vengeance will be open to season and platinum passholders April 30 – May 2 at the Season Passholder Frontiertown Hoedown.
