Former Mansfield K9 officer dies after battle with cancer

MANSFIELD, OH (WCMH) — The Mansfield Police Department says a former K9 officer has died after his battle with cancer. Retired officer Ryan Garner served with MPD from 2007-2017, according to the department.

Garner served in the Community Services Bureau Patrol Section and the SWAT Unit. He became a K9 Officer in 2014 with K-9 Elliot. He was the division’s officer of the year in 2015. 

“He was a very dedicated police officer who served the City of Mansfield with distinction and integrity,” the department wrote on Facebook. 

“He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and on behalf of the Mansfield Division of Police we extend our heartfelt condolences to Ryan’s family and friends. May you rest in peace Brother.”
