State News

COLUMBUS (WCMH/WKBN) — The suspect accused of dragging an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper during a traffic stop has surrendered to police.

Jamel Robert Patton, 22, turned himself into Austintown police on Friday afternoon.

The Patrol says a trooper initiated a traffic stop on Glenn Oak Drive in the city of Youngstown on Thursday, July 12, at 11:25pm. The suspect, later identified as Patton, fled the scene and dragged the trooper for more than a mile, the Patrol says. Another trooper began chasing the vehicle until Patton stopped and the other trooper broke free.

The trooper sustained non-life threatening injuries to his shoulder and back.
