AMBER Alert suspect captured near Mansfield, child found safe

MANSFIELD, OH (WCMH) — A man wanted for fleeing the Cleveland area with his 10-month-old son has been captured, ending a statewide Amber Alert. 

The suspect, Robert Beane Sr., reportedly stole a car, drove to his girlfriend’s house, pistol-whipped her, and took his son around 5:30am Wednesday. 

Crews began searching an area around Mansfield Lucas Road and Pulver Road on Wednesday afternoon after Beane Sr. crashed his vehicle at 2112 Mansfield Lucas Road. 

Beane Sr. and his son, Robert Beane Jr., were found in a wooded area near the Mansfield-Shelby border, according to WKYC

Beane Sr. was in a tent and reportedly surrendered peacefully. His son is in good health and was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. 

NBC affiliate WKYC reports Beane Sr. is a repeat violent offender with a criminal record going back eight years. He had been medically furloughed from the Lorain County Jail earlier this month before escaping.
