COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)- After falling short to acquire the necessary amount of signatures for the November ballot, Responsible Ohio has been given an extra 10 days to meet the requirements.

According to Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, the proposed amendment from Responsible Ohio titled “Marijuana Legalization Amendment,” on the November 2015 has failed.

Petitioners were required to submit at least 305,591 valid signatures, a number equal to 10 percent of the total votes cast for governor in the most recent gubernatorial election, 2014. Having submitted only 276,082 valid signatures statewide, Responsible Ohio has failed to meet this requirement.

ResponsibleOhio has qualified in 73 of Ohio’s 88 counties, exceeding the 44 county minimum requirement. Husted has also advised that the campaign must now collect approximately 30,000 valid signatures over the next 10 days.

Responsible Ohio has until July 30 to make up the difference of signatures.
