A human foot discovered by fishermen belongs to an Indiana mother who disappeared on March 15 after leaving for work, police said Wednesday.

Police responded to the scene Monday afternoon after a fisherman reported catching what appeared to be a human foot.

Najah Ferrell, 30, was last seen March 15.

Her items were later found near Interstate 65 and her car at another location.

The pond where the investigation is centered is located right off Interstate 65 at an exit ramp.

“We did find out that the human remains that were located did have a tattoo so at that point our investigators began examining that evidence itself and trying to make a preliminary declaration identification that it might be that of Najah Ferrell,” said Deputy Chief Brian Nugent/Avon Police.

Throughout the investigation, police have served dozens of warrants and interviewed about 40 people.

Investigators will continue to search the pond this week.
