WEST CHESTER, OH (AP) – Authorities outside Cincinnati have jailed a 31-year-old man after they say he surrendered to end a hostage standoff of around 30 hours.

Butler County authorities say a 10-year-old boy was taken to a hospital Sunday morning as a precaution, but no injuries were reported.

Sheriff Richard Jones said the event began early Saturday following an altercation inside an apartment in a northern Cincinnati suburb. The gunman later barricaded himself in a garage with the child, who’s not related.

Authorities say he fired more than 30 shots, hitting an armored vehicle and a robot.

Donald Gazaway is charged with kidnapping, felonious assault and inducing panic. No attorney was listed for him.

State prison records show he was released last July after serving nearly five years on felonious assault charges.Keep checking NBC4i.com for real-time updates on this story. To get alerts for breaking news, grab the free NBC4 News App for iPhone or Android. You can also sign up for email alerts.
