Police identify man fatally shot, suspect in southwest Columbus apartment complex

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus Police have identified the suspect after a deadly shooting at a southwest Columbus apartment complex.According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 11:46pm, officers were called to the 1500 block of Bay Club Circle on the report of a shooting.After arriving on scene, officers found the scene of the shooting and later, the victim, identified as Jared M. Bentley, 24, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.Bentley was pronounced dead at the scene.Police said that Bentley arrived in the area at about 11:45pm, when he became involved in an argument with two small groups of people. At one point, a person in one of the groups pulled a handgun and fired several shots at Bentley, according to police.Bentley attempted to escape the area after being shot, but was only able to make it a few hundred yards before exiting the vehicle and collapsing. Detectives have now filed delinquency murder charges on 18-year-old Michael Lee Meredith.

Police say Meredith was 17 years old at the time of the shooting.
