Police identify bar security guard killed in north Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – Police continue their investigation in to a Sunday night shooting that left a bar’s security guard dead.

According to the Columbus Division of Police officers responded to reports of a shooting at a bar in the 1400 block of Oakland Park Avenue at about 11:34pm, Sunday.

When officers arrived on scene, they found Shawn Lee Patilla, 49, lying in the middle of the bar suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Patilla was taken to Grant Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say Patila was a security guard at the bar and there was a disturbance earlier in the night. However, officers continue to investigate whether the disturbance and the shooting are related.

The suspect ran from the bar after the shooting according to police.
