NEWARK, OH (WCMH) — A stabbing in Newark city limits resulted in a high-speed police chase that ended in rural Licking County.
36-year-old Raymond Taylor allegedly stabbed a woman on Garfield Ave. in Newark before leading police on a chase. Radio calls say he hit speeds of 90 MPH on Montgomery Road before turning down the long driveway of a farm, where a police-involved shooting took place. It is unknown how many police were involved, but three involved in the car chase were placed on administrative leave tonight, which Newark police say is standard protocol following such an incident.
As of Wednesday evening, the female victim’s condition was unknown, but police say she had moved to a Columbus-area hospital. The man who called 911 told NBC4 the woman was able to move and talk as paramedics arrived. Police have asked that the woman is not immediately identified.
Newark Police could not say if Taylor had a gun or not. It is also unknown if gunfire is what caused the non-life threatening injury that sent him to the hospital.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the officer-involved shooting case as a means to ensure transparency.
