COLUMBUS, OH (WCMH) – One man is dead after an early morning shooting in far east Columbus.
It happened around 2:40am on the 7400 block of Kirkdale Drive at the McNiel Farms Condominiums.
According to police, someone called in to report shots fired and said their neighbor had been hit. The caller said they would be driving the victim to the hospital themselves.
The victim, now identified as 35-year-old Kenneth E. Davis, arrived at Mount Carmel East with his neighbor a few minutes later. Davis was rushed into a trauma unit and physicians pronounced him dead just before 3:00 am.
Police say a preliminary investigation shows that Davis may have been shot in his vehicle in an ambush style attack when he arrived at the residence.
Steven Baxter, another neighbor, described what he heard around the time of the shooting.
“[I] heard like six shots and then some car horns, and then it sounded like some muffled screams or yelling or something like that,” Baxter said. “A few minutes later I see the lights out here, come out and there’s a whole bunch of police cars.”
Police do not have any suspect information at this time. This is the 79th homicide in the city of Columbus this year.Keep checking NBC4i.com for real-time updates on this story. To get alerts for breaking news, grab the free NBC4 News App for iPhone or Android. You can also sign up for email alerts.
