A popular Olentangy Schools teacher is fired, sparking outrage among her past and present students, as well as their parents.

Nicole LeMire said last month she became aware of a student at Glen Oak Elementary School, who was blowing mucus on other children and using inappropriate language.

Additionally, LeMire said the student pushed another young boy to the ground.

In an effort to teach the boy a lesson, the former teacher said she asked him, what she thought would be a well-suited question.

“I said ‘do you know how your actions and your words are hurting other students and your friends,'” she said. “That’s it.”

Within days, LeMire said she was placed on paid administrative leave, and only told she was under investigation for “public humiliation” of the student.

On Thursday, the Olentangy Schools board of education voted to terminate her contract.

According to the board’s official resolution, LeMire “asked students in her classroom to take turns saying how the student (“Student A”) had acted badly, violated rules or insulted them, and/or why Student A was annoying or had no friends. Ms. LeMire required Student A to listen to classmates’ complaints and refused to allow him to respond or defend himself against potentially embellished complaints.”

Before the vote, several of LeMire’s supporters spoke on her behalf.

“She’s a natural born educator,” friend and colleague Marsha Seymour, told the board. “She truly has the child’s best interest in mind, no matter what.”

Members of the school board departed Thursday’s meeting, declining to comment on the vote.

LeMire said she plans to pursue legal action against the district.
