Ohio man sets himself on fire after election rant

News

AKRON, OH (WCMH) — Police say the Vietnam veteran went on a rant about the election, doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire.

WEWS reports the man, dressed in a Marine Corps uniform, walked into the Angel Falls Coffee Shop and attempted to get into a political conversation with customers.

The owner of the coffee shop says the man seemed very interested in the anti-Trump rallies being held across the country. But when no one would engage in the conversation, the owner of the shop says the man handed his cell phone to a stranger and told him to record a video.

Police say that’s when the man went outside, doused himself in gasoline and lit himself on fire.

Witnesses didn’t get video of the incident, but instead, tried to put the fire out.

Police told WEWS the man had no criminal record and will not face charges for setting himself on fire.

The man’s family is stunned. “I don’t think there was any indication that he was going to do something like this, so I think with them being in shock, right now they’re just asking for their privacy,” said Lt. Rick Edwards.
