Investigators have identified the mother of a dead newborn found on Muskingum University’s campus on Wednesday.

The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office said the mother is a student at the school. Her name has not been released and no charges have been filed.

Officials said the baby girl’s body was found in a plastic bag in a garbage can outside the Delta Gamma Theta sorority house on Lakeside Drive in New Concord on Thursday.

The Muskingum County Coroner’s Office suspected the baby died of suffocation the morning she was found. She was near term and alive when she was born. There were no other signs of trauma.

The sheriff’s office and campus police are continuing the investigation.
