PORTLAND, OR (KGW) – An animal rescue group tasked with saving pets stranded in the Louisiana flood waters went above and beyond in a literal sense on Friday, flying a group of rescues from the flood ravaged southern state to Oregon.
Cathy Nechak, president of Friends of Shelter Animals in Aloha, had reached out to the flight group Wings of Rescue to bring the pets to the Northwestern United States.
“I’m just extremely happy they got here safe and sound,” said Nechak. “We’re going get them home and all to bed and get them dinner and start their new life.”
The animals had a little help along the way as well, when donors on Facebook raised the $15,000 needed to fund the flight to Oregon in just one day.
The animal rescue group rescued more than 125 pets from the flooded areas, many of which were already in shelters before the devastating flooding in Louisiana. According to the Oregon Humane Society, as many as 31 rescued cats are expected to be ready for adoption this weekend. The others will be taken to other Pacific Northwest shelters. What others are clicking on:
