COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The father of Columbus’ mayor was arrested Friday on charges of domestic violence and assault.

Jeffrey Ginther, 69, was charged with domestic violence and assault, both first-degree misdemeanors, in connection with an incident that happened in the 900 block of Chatham Lane according to Franklin County court records.

He entered a not guilty plea on Saturday, according to court records. He posted bond and was ordered to stay away from the prosecution witness.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Franklin County Municipal Court at 9am Monday.

Mayor Andrew Ginther released the following statement on Saturday:

There was an incident involving members of my family, in which emotion and circumstance got the better of all involved. I expect the authorities will fully investigate the matter, take appropriate action and that justice will be even handed.

At times, family members may disappoint you. Their behavior may be unacceptable, and they must be held accountable. But, they are your family, and you love them.
