Man impersonating officer lured woman into vehicle in Pickaway County

CIRCLEVILLE, OH (WCMH) – People in the Circleville area are on edge after yet another incident of a man impersonating a police officer. In this latest case, a man pretending to be an officer managed to get a 19-year-old in his car. She escaped. This is the fourth reported impersonation case in the area in just the past week.

The unnamed teenager sensed something just wasn’t right after being pulled over by a car with flashing lights. The police report was made just before nine Monday morning. After being told to get into the back of the man’s car she took off running when she got the chance. She got away unharmed, but what scariest for people in the area is what could’ve happened.

The crime happened at the intersection at State Route 207 and Mouser Road. The Pickaway County Sheriff said a man impersonating a police officer pulled over the 19-year-old girl for supposedly speeding. Willard Stout lives just down the road from where it happened in New Holland.

“It’s just heart-wrenching why somebody’s got to do this to these girls,” said Stout.

The sheriff said two men in a dark-colored car with lights on the dash pulled over the girl and told her to get in the back of the car. One man said he was a police officer on his way to work. The other man then drove away in her vehicle. The girl’s car was found about two miles down the road abandoned.

Stout said you can never be too safe, even in the country.

“Always always keep an eye out for what’s going on,” he said.

There were three reports made just last week in Circleville of a man impersonating an officer. Police don’t know yet if those cases are connected to what happened in New Holland.

If you know anything call the Pickaway County Sheriffs Office.
