LANCASTER, Ohio (WCMH) – 22-year-old Clayton Waites stood guard outside the recruiting center near River Valley Mall in Lancaster today.

The Canal Winchester man was armed with an AR-15 and a 9mm pistol.

Waites says he plans to protect the service members working here until Governor John Kasich issues an executive order authorizing the Ohio National Guard to protect the workers.

“I’m doing this for them, primarily to show them I am here. But, this is also a show of force,” Waites said. “We live in an information age and we are in an information war, so if people are thinking about doing it and they see tons of pictures of guys dressed like this guarding these stations, they’re going to think twice before they go do it.”

Several people have given Waites water, one person even bought him lunch, thanking him for standing guard.

Waites is legally able to carry the firearms outside the center, as they are in plain sight.
