COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A woman looking to sell her camera and a lens said the person who wanted to buy those items stole them from her.

Teresa Rodriguez said she’s sold items through apps and Craigslist before without any problems.

She said this transaction seemed very normal at first.

“I said, ‘you’re not going to run off with it are you?’ You, know joking, and the kid bolted,” said Rodriguez.

It was a joke that became reality.

Surveillance video shows the moment when Teresa Rodriguez and Chase Dodd said the person claiming to want to buy a Canon camera ran away after stealing it.

“I’m still in shock that all of it happened,” said Rodriguez.

The messages in the LetGo app show Rodriguez and the buyer agreed to meet at an apartment complex.

Rodriguez says she did not have a problem with that.

“The fact that they said they didn’t drive, I was ok with meeting at this apartment complex.”

The buyer even offered an extra 20 dollars in for their gas in this message.

Rodriguez said when she a got to the complex they were met by a kid, who she thought was a translator for an adult, but she added he wasn’t alone.

She claimed another man there threatened to shoot her boyfriend, Chase Dodd, who chased the boy who took the camera. Dodd said that other man got away with his cellphone.

“He whipped the backpack around and put his hand in it and said ‘if you don’t turn around and go, I’m going to shoot you,’” said Dodd. “I don’t know for sure if he had a gun or not, but I’m not going to risk it over a phone.”

Rodriguez said police urged her to use a safe place for any future transactions.
