Woman killed when mishandled gun discharges in southeast Columbus home, police say

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police say it appears a woman was shot and killed when someone mishandled a gun in southeast Columbus.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 11:19pm, Monday, officers were called to the 5000 block of Labelle Drive on the report of a shooting.

When police arrived on scene, they found Jwan N. Porter, 40, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Porter was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital where she died from her injuries.

Police say it appears someone inside the residence mishandled a gun when it discharged, striking Porter and fatally wounding her. 

Police continue to question people and their involvement in the shooting, but no charges have been filed.
