Woman gets threatening text: $100 gift card or her life

Local News

Columbus Police took a report that a woman who lives near Hilliard, Ohio, was threatened with her life.

She received the threat via text message at 5:01 a.m. Tuesday.

It read: “Hey we are looking for you… Because someone paid for your life and you’ll be assassinated in lest than 15days.”

The woman talked with NBC4i.com. We are not publishing her last name because of the threat.

Brandi told NBC4.com that she believed it was a friend goofing around.

“I responded asking ‘Who is this?” Brandi recalled. “I got a picture back of a man. Face completely covered with a hoodie.”

While that photo was sent to her, the person in the picture may not be the person texting Brandi.

We enhanced the contrast, clarity, and exposure of the picture. The change in the photo was enough to see the eyes of the person.

The person texting Brandi noted that her address was known and that, “We’re going to kill you and your Family,” if she did not pay up a #100 gift card.

She explained that she thinks it is an electronic scheme to scare her into giving money.

“I’m not personally scared about it, because I feel it’s probably someone from some other country,” she said. “I don’t think it’s something you should take lightly.”

That is why she went to the police on Tuesday afternoon to report what she experienced.

The report lists the exchange Brandi had as a “Telecommunications Harassment.”
