A Hamden man accused of sexually assaulting two minors is in custody and facing 18 felony charges.

According to the Vinton County Prosecutor’s Office, David Longworth, 41, was indicted by a grand jury on May 23. Longworth is charged with six counts of rape, six counts of gross sexual imposition, three counts of possessing criminal tools, two counts of endangering children and one count of aggravated possession of drugs.

The charges stem from an investigation into multiple incidents from May 1, 2017 through Jan. 11, 2018 when Longworth allegedly engaged in sexual contact with two different minors under the age of 13. According to the indictment, Longworth also possessed sex toys with the intended purpose of being used to commit a felony and did knowingly obtain, possess or use methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance.

The prosecutor’s office says Longworth was on community control and a registered sex offender when he allegedly committed the crimes, having been previously convicted of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in 2006. Longworth was also convicted of breaking and entering and vandalism in 2010.

Vinton County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Simmons set bail at $500,000 at Longworth’s arraignment on Friday. He remains behind bars at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. Longworth’s next court appearance remains to be scheduled.
