Village Bookshop in Linworth closing after nearly 50 years

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — After nearly 50 years of business Village Bookshop, a discount bookstore housed in a former church is going out of business.

If Scout Finch is looking for Arthur “Boo” in how to Kill A Mocking Bird, she would find it tucked away in an old bookshelf at Village Bookshop in Linworth.

The store is filled with interesting characters. and it’s easy to get lost for a few hours digging through old books, photographs and other treasures.

“We are sorry too that we have to leave but at some point you have to say, you know we have to move on,” said owner Carol Friedlinghaus. 

Carol Friedlinghaus and her husband Gary are retiring after taking over Village Bookshop in 1983.

The building still showcasing its original structure built back in 1886 was once a church. The place holds thousands of stories that will be missed.

 “We are going to miss this place a lot,” said customer, Cecilia Marshall.

Moby Dick, Thurgood Marshall, classics with each turn of the page.

“The permanency of having something you can hold and go back to like a cherished friend, and escape. I like cookbooks so I am really going to miss their cookbooks,” said customer, Claudette Wade. 

For many of these longtime customers it is a goodbye to an old friend, but the  beginning of a new chapter

The bookstore will close at the end of the summer after its final going out of business sale.
