Urbana University students briefly shelter in place after reports of shots fired

URBANA, Ohio (WDTN) – Urbana University was briefly sheltered in place Tuesday after reports of shots fired in the area.

The university sent out a statement Tuesday afternoon, saying the Office of Security received a report of a shot fired just after 2 p.m.

An alert was sent to students, faculty, and staff around 2:30 p.m. saying: “There is a suspect with weapon on campus. Shots have been fired. If you are on campus, go into the nearest available room and lock the door.”

An “all clear” notification was sent out around 2:46 p.m. after the Urbana Police Department gave the university clearance to do so.

The Urbana Police Department is handling the investigation.
