The Union County Sheriff’s office is looking for two men who escaped the West Central Community Correctional Facility on State Route 4 North in Marysville.
On Saturday at approximately 2:43 pm, the Union County Sheriff’s Office received a call from West Central Community Correctional Facility reporting that two residents had escaped.
West Central is a 144 bed Community Based Correctional Facility (CBCF) serving Champaign, Clark, Delaware, Logan, Madison, Marion, Morrow, and Union counties.
West Central is a secure treatment environment which provides a local alternative to prison with the primary purpose of rehabilitation for non-violent male and female felony offenders.
The men have been identified as Joshua K. Hammond, 28, of Columbus, and Cody A. Ray, 27, of West Mansfield.
Hammond was placed at West Central in August 2018 as a result of a probation violation for an original charge of possession of drugs.
Ray was placed at West Central in September 2018 as a result of a probation violation for an original charge of grand theft.
Police say that both escapees ran through an open door and climbed a twelve foot fence on the east side of the facility. They were last seen running into a cornfield north of the facility.
Hammond was last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes. He is a Hispanic male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is six feet tall and weighs 140 pounds.
Ray was last seen wearing a green shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes. He is described as a white male with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5’11” tall and weighs 160 pounds.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the facility within two minutes and began an immediate search. The Marysville Division Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol also responded, as well as a K-9 unit from the Plain City Police Department. The Columbus Police Department sent a helicopter to assist with the search from the air.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, both men are still at large.
