WAVERLY, OH (WCMH) — Two Waverly Police Department officers were treated with narcan after coming into contact with a white, powdery substance during an arrest.

The police department says the officers had stopped a truck on East Third Street on May 24. They found pills, a hypodermic needle and a cigarette package containing “a white powder substance” in the driver’s compartment of the vehicle. The officers also found “several baggies containing a white and black substance.”

Both officers began to have trouble breathing, and were transported separately to Adena Pike Hospital. They were treated with narcan and released.

The driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old Blake Havens, was arrested and charged with possession of drugs. He told a Waverly police sergeant the white powder substance contained fentanyl, and that he had purchased the drugs from a man standing on a street corner in Chillicothe.

The incident remains under investigation.
