DELAWARE COUNTY, OH (WCMH) — Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers have identified the man killed in a Delaware County crash.

According to troopers, at about 11:15pm, Thursday, John D. Schmittauer, 23, of Lewis Center, was driving a 2009 Honda Civic northbound on South Old State Road, when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a mailbox and overturned in a ditch.

Schmittauer was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Troopers say Schmittauer was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but alcohol use is a suspected factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
