Farmers market season is in full swing here in Central Ohio. Whether you’re looking for organic produce, humanely raised meats and eggs, local honey or artisan crafts, the Columbus metro area has a lot of great markets to choose from.
Many of the markets also give back to the local community through outreach, education or donating proceeds to great causes. We asked NBC4 viewers what their favorite farmers markets were, and here’s what they told us:
- 3341 Winchester Pike, Columbus (bakery is open daily from 8am to 7pm)
- 380 Agler Road, Gahanna (open daily from 8:30am to 7pm)
Smith Farm Market has been delivering local produce, plants and baked goods to central Ohio for nearly 40 years. More than 80% of the year-round market’s produce is grown in Beverly Ohio at the Witten Family Farm. NBC4 viewers cannot get enough of the sweet corn or their fresh-baked pies.
Where: 9091 Morse Road, Pataskala (currently closed, but will open for the season on July 12)
Lynd Fruit Farm is a viewer favorite when it comes to apple picking and pumpkin patches, so it’s no surprise their Farm Market is one of the best places to get fresh produce in central Ohio. This eighth-generation family farm has been in business since the early 1900s and provides a huge selection for you to choose from. The market is currently closed, but will open for the season on July 12.
Where: 1000 E. State St., Athens (open year-round on Saturdays from 9am to noon; open on Wednesdays from April to December from 9am to 1pm)
Nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of Athens, the Athens Farmers Market began with just a handful of farmers selling their produce back in the early 1970s and has grown into a mecca of local produce, goods, plants and more with more than 80 vendors. As a Bobcat, I can personally say this is definitely one of the best farmers markets in the region, if not the state. Whether you live in the Athens area or are just there for a day trip, you’ll definitely want to put this on your list of places to check out.
Where: Just south of the intersection of State Route 161 and High Street in Old Worthington (open Saturdays from 8am to noon)
Enjoy fresh, local and sustainable food year-round at the Worthington Farmers Market. The outdoor season runs May through October, and the indoor season runs from November until April. This year marks the 31st season for the market. More than 90 vendors participate in the market, and the market also offers Taste Education, compost exchange, Community Table, Knife Sharpening, Market Fit, Market Sprouts, Music in the Market and Yoga at the Market. The market also participates in the Veggie SNAPS program, which offers a $1-for-$1 match up to $10 to encourage individuals enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to purchase fresh, local produce. The market is open from 8am to noon on Saturdays.

- Wednesday Market is located near the intersection of North State Street and Home Street (open 3pm to 6pm May through October)
