UNION COUNTY, Ohio (WCMH) — A little girl, just two months away from turning two years old, died Tuesday afternoon after she was struck by a pickup truck on State Route 38 near the Paris and Darby Twp. line.
Union County Sheriff Malcolm “Jamie” Patton says it appears the toddler, named Alyssa, was outside with her family and got away from her mother.
Her father gave NBC4 a picture of her and said off camera that they were cleaning the garage when his daughter walked over near the bushes and was struck by a truck.
“It’s heartbreaking,” neighbor, Tammy Kessler said.
The girl’s father said he tried to do everything to save her life before paramedics got to the scene.
“The first responders were very, very quick they were here in less than if it was a minute it was a minute and ten seconds,” Kessler said.
The sheriff said the driver was being cooperative and the road was closed off for more than three hours as they investigated the crash.
The sheriff also said drugs, alcohol and speed are not considered factors in this crash.
However, the speed limit on the road is 55 miles per hour.
And neighbors said they think that’s too fast for the area.
“This road out here is very, very dangerous,” Kessler said.
As the investigation continues, the sheriff said no charges have been filed.
