COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police say a suspect was shot by a Columbus SWAT officer during a standoff at a home in the area of South High Street and Mithoff St.

Police say the man is in custody and being taken to an area hospital. Police say he is in serious condition.

According to Columbus police, a man in his 60s had barricaded himself inside a home and was not communicating with negotiators.

Police say the man pulled a weapon on a health care worker who was there before police arrived. She told police she was there to do a well-being check. She got away unharmed and called police.

When officers arrived at the home, police say the man opened the door, then closed it when he realized it was police.

According to police, the man stopped communicating with police. SWAT officers say they attempted several non-lethal methods of getting him outside, but the man pointed a gun at officers.

A police spokesperson says at least two, possibly three officers fired at the man.
