A 54-year-old man died from a gunshot wound on Wednesday after barricading himself inside his home for nearly three hours after allegedly shooting a woman.

The woman was taken to Grant Medical Center while police attempted to enter the home and make contact with the man. Her condition is unknown.

Police entered the home nearly three hours after they received 911 calls and found the man dead inside. They said they are unsure if the man’s gunshot was self-inflicted.

The incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on North Guilford Avenue in a Franklinton neighborhood in Columbus, officers said.

SWAT officers and Columbus Police entered the home and found the man dead inside from a gunshot wound.

SWAT officers and Columbus Police know the neighborhood well.

“Well, we’re used to hearing gun sounds around here. I guess it’s just the west side and this neighborhood,” said Krysti Seymour.

Seymour heard the gunshot then saw much of what happened next.

Just across the street at 92 N. Guilford Ave near its intersection with Broad Street, police say

Police say they’ve recently been to the home on a domestic violence call. They are unsure whether that man’s deadly gunshot was self-inflicted.
