COLUMBUS (WCMH) - This summer, our team here at NBC4 has launched an exciting initiative with BESA, an organization that makes it easy to volunteer and connect in our community.
We’re calling it the NBC4 Today Summer of Giving and we want you to be a part of the movement.
Each month, the NBC4 Today team will highlight a local charity, BESA will organize a volunteer opportunity and together, we will chip in to make Central Ohio a little better.
We launched the initiative in May by bundling diapers at the Columbus Diaper Coalition. In June, we will be helped set up a community celebration at the Kaleidoscope Youth Center. This month, we will be getting our hands dirty with the Mid-Ohio Foodbank at Clarfield Farm.
"There are so many people who are discovering how easy it is to give back. To get connected to great organizations like the Food Bank in their backyard," said Matthew Goldstein, BESA founder.
The farm that we will be working at is an urban farm serving the Marion-Franklin community.
“The farm stand really feels like a farmer’s market booth. So when the neighbors come and get produce, they're excited about the progress that we are offering. They appreciate that it is being grown in their neighborhood. “ said Sarah Lenkay, Strategic Projects Director for the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
The produce is available in a pay-what-you-can capacity.
This month’s volunteer opportunity will be on Saturday June 21th from 9:30am to noon. No farming experience is required.
