Officer fires gun at suspect during west side robbery

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus police say an officer shot at a suspect during a robbery on the west side Tuesday.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 8:04am, Tuesday, a 38-year-old man entered the CVS located in the 1500 block of West Broad Street and held up the pharmacist demanding drugs. 

Police say an officer arrived on the scene shortly and tried stopping the suspect. The officer fired a shot, striking the suspect.

The suspect was able to drive away from the area, and later caused a crash near West Broad Street and I-70, according to police. He was later arrested along Belvidere Avenue.

The 38-year-old suspect was taken to Grant Medical Center in stable condition and is facing aggravated robbery charges. Police say he could face more charges.  

Police are withholding the suspect’s name while they determine whether he is connected to any other recent robberies.

No other injuries were reported and police continue to investigate.
