COLUMBUS (WCMH) -- Columbus police say no officers were injured after shots were fired during a police pursuit, Wednesday.
Police say a suspect, 37-year-old Roger Wayne Knapp of Lockbourne, was driving a Ford-F350 that had been reported stolen from Pickaway County.
As officer approached the vehicle, police say the driver attempted to get away and drove towards one of the officers. Officers "perceived a threat to their safety and discharged their firearms," according to police.
Knapp was not injured by the gunfire and fled the scene on foot. He was captured after a brief foot pursuit and taken into custody. He has been charged with one count of receiving stolen property. More charges may follow.
Officers "sustained minor injuries." Knapp was transported to Grant Medical Center for precautionary measures.
Carlos Murphy is a business owner in the area. He heard gunshots as he was exiting his truck.
"I'm not used to hearing gunshots. It's sounds like Vietnam around here," said Murphy.
Sgt. David Pelphrey said it's important to folks come forward with information if they have it.
"When you have some sort of disruption in the community it's always better for them to come forward and work with the police. For their safety and make sure we don't have these kind of issues in the future," said Pelphrey.
Authorities told NBC4 they expect this investigation to last for several hours as this community is left having to take a different route to get to their homes.
