Shooting in northeast Columbus leaves one person dead

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police are investigating a deadly shooting in northeast Columbus. 

According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 6:26 a.m., Wednesday, officers were called to the 2700 block of Brentnell Avenue on the report of a shooting.  

When officers arrived on scene, they found Herbert Earley, 54, inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.  

He was taken to Grant Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.  

Police say Earley and another person were sitting in a vehicle at a Sunoco gas station in the 1700 block of E. Hudson Street, when a black SUV pulled into the lot and began firing into the vehicle before driving off.  

Police say the motive for the shooting remains unknown, and ask anyone with information to call the CPD Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
