Sheriff’s Office investigating fatal hit and run in Fayette County

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man was killed early Sunday morning, believed to have been struck by a hit and run driver.

The call was reported to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Communications Center at 7:38am.

Police say a passing motorist reported a male in the ditch area in front of Heritage Memorial Church in the 1800 block of Old Route #35NW.

Sheriff’s deputies, officers with the Washington Court House Police Department, and Fayette County EMS responded to the area and located the body of a deceased male. Detectives believe the man was struck by a hit and run driver while walking along the roadway.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending a positive identification and notification to the next-of-kin.

Fayette County Detectives and members of their Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating.
