COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Ohio State students looking for cheap furniture and secondhand household items can head over to the Dump and Run sale on campus Friday.
The event, which began at 11am Friday and runs until 4pm at Blackburn House, is put on by the student organization Students for Recycling. The items for sale are a portion of what is left behind at dorm move-out in May.
The items include furniture, kitchen supplies, rugs, shoes and more, at discounted prices.
A university spokesperson said more than ten tons of the material left behind by students in May was given to Goodwill Columbus, and more than half a ton of food was donated to the campus food pantry. Another ton of material is left to be sold at the Dump and Run sale.
“These items can be reused, they can be used again, and not everything just has to be thrown away,” said Trace Eberhardt, the chair of Dump and Run. “There are alternatives to going to the landfill.”
Hailey Hayes, another member of Students for Recycling, urged people to think about ways to recycle and reduce waste in their daily lives.
“Keep in mind the waste that you’re producing and try to reduce your waste, as well as maybe single-use items and definitely start reusing more,” Hayes said.
While the event is scheduled to go until 4 p.m., organizers said items tend to sell out quickly. It is taking place at the Blackburn House Victory Room.
