COLUMBUS (WCMH) — This summer, the NBC4 Today team partnered with Besa for the Summer of Giving.
Each month, we promoted a different local charity and gave our viewers an opportunity to volunteer with us.
The program was so successful that we are now launching the Season of Giving. With the holidays drawing near, we are starting with the Adopt a Senior program.
While many of us are busy planning parties and searching for the perfect gift, it can be difficult time for our older neighbors. The holidays can be a time of loneliness and longing for Christmas past.
You can make a difference by granting a Christmas wish and giving the gift of kindness.
“Adopt a Senior started six years ago for Besa. We adopted I think it was like 13 seniors, about $250 worth of presents. And these were fixed income seniors asking for basics,” said Besa Founder Matthew Goldstein. “Last year, we adopted out 1,300 senior wish lists and close to $70,000 in presents.”
This year there will be 1,500 names on the Adopt a Senior list which goes live November 1.
According to Goldstein, the names will go fast so he suggests signing up for alerts to know exactly when the list goes live.
