ROSS CO., OH (WCMH) — The puppy that was discovered caged and abandoned in a Chillicothe park, with writing in permanent marker on her, now has a new home.
Last week, the Ross County Humane Society posted photos of the dog, which was found with the words “FREE” and “GOOD HOME ONLY” written on it, on Facebook.
The reaction was widespread, as more than 100 hopeful owners applied to adopt the dog.
On Wednesday, she went home with the Wrightsel family of Chillicothe.
“We just couldn’t resist,” said Linette Wrightsel. “My daughter begged me to go to the pound. We went to visit and that was it. We just both connected.”
While at the Ross County Humane Society, caretakers named the puppy “Marvella,” which means miracle.

The Wrightsels said they will make sure “Marvella” remains part of her name.
“I’m thinking ‘Dewey,’ said Riley Wrightsel. “I’ll shorten it to ‘Dew’ and call her ‘Dew.’ I just really love that name, but I’m always going to love ‘Marvella’ and the story that’s behind it.”
According to the Ross County Humane Society, Brothers Pressure Washing & Window Cleaning covered the cost of the adoption.
