Portsmouth Police arrest three, seize drugs during traffic stop

According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s office, three people have been arrested on drug charges after approximately $27,000 worth of suspected illegal drugs were seized during a traffic stop in the 700 block of 12th street in Portsmouth on Friday, August 3 at approximately 5:34pm.

The Southern Ohio Drug Task Force, assisted by officers with the Portsmouth Police Department and the Portsmouth Police Department Street Crimes Unit, stopped a vehicle occupied by Lois Edwards, 53 of Portsmouth, Wyshawn Demon O’Berry, 26, of Dayton, and Shayla Lashaun Byrd, 19, of Columbus. The driver, Edwards, was driving with a suspended driver’s license.

During a search of the vehicle, investigators say that officers seized approximately 246 grams of suspected heroin and fentanyl, approximately 24 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, several Suboxone sublingual film packets, $1,799 in cash, digital scales, suspected cutting agents and additional drug trafficking evidence.

Edwards, O’Berry and Byrd were charged with felony possession of suspected heroin and felony possession of suspected methamphetamine and taken to the Scioto County Jail.

According to the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force, this case remains under investigation and will be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office for the consideration of additional felony charges.
