Police: Suspect ID’d in hit-skip crash that killed 62-year-old Columbus woman

The Columbus Division of Police has named a suspect in the fatal hit-skip accident in which a 62-year-old woman was dragged for six blocks to Driving Park Recreation Center.

Lequan A. Hedrick has been named as the driver of a 2006 Cadillac STS that police say struck Garnet Louise Jones, of Columbus, at 12:31 a.m. on March 31 and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The initial crash took place in the area of East Whittier Street and Fairwood Avenue.

Jones’ body was discovered lying on the ground at Driver Park Recreation Center, at 1100 Rhoads Ave.

She was dead at the scene.

Jones’ death was the city’s 11th traffic-related fatality of 2019.

The 2006 Cadillac STS has been impounded and taken to the Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit office for processing.
