COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The Columbus Division of Police says a man died Thursday morning after a fight in northeast Columbus.

Police say patrol officers responded to the fight in the 5400 block of Cameron Ellis Drive at 7:36am. A man was found laying against the front door inside of the residence with a stab wound. He was pronounced dead at 8:30am. Police have not released his name.

Homicide Sgt. Dave Sicilian said officers gave CPR and tried to revive the man, but were unsuccessful.

According to police, Shanara Jakee Culbreath, 28, was taken into custody as a suspect.

Officers said Culbreath and the suspect were living together. When they arrived, Culbreath was not home. Investigators searched for her all day until she returned to the apartment that afternoon.

A neighbor that lives below Culbreath told police dispatchers that she could her Culbreath and her boyfriend arguing constantly day and night.

They are going at it big time this morning,” the caller told 911. “She is screaming, ‘Let me out of here,’ and he was like, ‘I’m going to hurt you.’ You can tell he is punching walls or doing something.”

Residents were notified by the complex about the incident.

“It is close to homes but hopefully it was an isolated incident,” said resident Gregg Jensen.

This is the 24th homicide in Columbus in calendar year 2018.
